In Being True To Ourselves, Drake Von and Adam Awbride star as two gay men sent by their families to a conversion camp where they fall for each other.
Adam looks remorseful, explaining how he just couldn’t leave things the way they left them this morning when they had their argument. Drake is planning an escape from the facility, and Adam told him it was too much of a reckless thing to do. Though Adam certainly has his reasons for trying to talk Drake out of it, he came here to apologize for letting things get so heated between them. At the same time, Adam still holds his ground.
He wants Drake to stay here where it’s sage- trying to escape is simply too dangerous. But Drake doesn’t care and besides, how could Adam even consider asking him to stay when he knows just how miserable they are here? This place tells them they’re ‘unnatural’ just for being who they are, and tries to make them feel ashamed of every thought and feeling they have. Destroying their self-esteem isn’t going to ‘convert’ them – it’s just heartless, and it’s WRONG.’But what about me?’ Adam asks, ‘What about US?’
It’s revealed that Adam has feelings for Drake, and fears that if Drake goes through with this, they’ll never see each other again. If Drake escapes, Adam will be left here to fend for himself, and if Drake gets caught, then he’ll be punished and probably moved to a different part of the facility.
Drake also has feelings for Adam, so he suggests that he come away with him. They can escape together! But Adam is hesitant and declines to do so. Sadly, Adam helps Drake pack his belongings, clinging to their very last moments together. But before Drake leaves for good, they decide to do one last thing together that they’ve never done before. Something intimate… and forbidden.
